The noble family originated in Sicily with Roberto de Aceto, Count of Aucense and son of Guglielmo di Aceto, Count of Pelago, who was married to Matilde, daughter of Count Ruggiero. This is confirmed by two donations from 1085 to the church of Patti and one from 1093 to the church of S. Pietro e Paolo d'Itala, where Count Ruggiero refers to Roberto as his son-in-law. Other privileges attest to the family's ancient nobility, as well as the eminent positions, titles, and honours they held.

Roberto was the father of Guarino, Grand Chancellor of the Kingdom of Sicily and Grand Chamberlain, from whom came Guidalotto, father of Torre and grandfather of Recco, as stated by Abbot Giuseppe Planzone. Guglielmo, son of Recco, received Palermitan citizenship in 1312 and held the esteemed position of Praetor of Palermo in 1332. He was the father of Giacomo, Grand Justiciar and Master Justiciar of Val Demone. Pietro, son of Giacomo, was granted an annual income of 100 gold ounces in 1358 by King Ludovico and Queen Giovanna, with the obligation of providing a pair of gloves for military service. Pietro was succeeded by his son Giovanni, and then Nicolò, a royal soldier and King Martino's first ordinary chamberlain. These dignities were confirmed on June 1, 1476, to Pietro and Nicolò di Aceto, son and grandson of Alfonso, son of the aforementioned Nicolò. Due to certain disturbances in the kingdom, specifically in Troina, Nicolò di Aceto di Pietro was elected Vicar General of that city in 1500. There, he married Maddalena de Ferrari, with whom he had Giacomo, thereby establishing his family in Troina.

Nicolò died in Troina in 1540 after making his solemn will on September 15 of that year before notary Vincenzo Gravina. Giacomo di Aceto married Paola Tortoreto (or Tortorici) as per marriage agreements before notary Antonino Lo Presti on December 22, 1582, and made his will before notary Girolamo Barone on August 16, 1589, leaving his son Michelangelo, baptised in Troina on December 2, 1586, as universal heir. Michelangelo married Aurelia Falco e Lanza, as per marriage agreements before notary Giovanni Tedesco on October 27, 1608, and became the father of Giuseppe, baptised in Troina on October 12, 1613. Giuseppe married Francesca la Vignera, as per marriage agreements before notary Giuseppe Gravina on March 13, 1650, and willed before notary Vincenzo Pinelli di Nicosia on September 10, 1667, leaving his son Cesare, baptised in Troina on July 2, 1660, as universal heir. Cesare de Aceto e la Vignera married Antonia Planes. He was captain of Troina in 1692 and 1695 and pro-conservator of the same city in 1695. He was the father of Francesco, page to King Vittorio Amedeo II of Savoy. Francesco de Aceto e Planes married Giuseppa Capra, as per marriage agreements before notary Ignazio Sottosanti di Nicosia on December 5, 1723. They had a son named Roberto-Maria, born in July 1724, who obtained a comprehensive certificate of nobility from the Palermitan Senate on May 12, 1760. He purchased the barony of Casaliarbone from the spouses Francesco and Francesca Garigliano before notary Saladino di Nicosia on May 13, 1764, and was invested with it on September 27 of the same year. He married twice: first to Antonina Ansaldo, as per marriage agreements before notary Niccolò Ciavirella di Nicosia on November 17, 1741, and second to Angela Pottino. From the first marriage, he had two sons: Francesco and Giuseppe Antonio; from the second, Pietro, Giacomo, Anna Maria, Michelangelo, Giovanni, Paolo, and Mario. He died on October 15, 1788, in Nicosia after making his will before notary Paolo Maria Pratofiorito di Troina on November 28, 1785. Francesco de Aceto ed Ansaldo, his eldest son (and the first we encounter with the surname *Cattani*), was invested with the barony of Casaliarbone on April 30, 1789.

This family continues to flourish.
